Working Women in Pakistan

Nov 20, 2020

Today I decided to touch a topic which grasped my attention.
It is not easy to be a woman in a male dominant society and there are paramount cultural and faith pressures on eastern woman to care for, that is her family and to educate her children well. Working women in Pakistan are faced with a lot more challenges than their counterparts not only in Pakistan but also in comparison to other parts of the world. In Pakistan, men do not share in most of the household chores. It is women's job to cook, clean the house, do the dishes, wash clothes, get their children ready for school, so and so. Men just take care of few things that are to be dealt outside the house. So the major burden of running the family is on the shoulders of women. It was alright for women to handle all the chores as long as they were homemakers. Now with their increasing need for getting some income for the family, they have to work all the more harder. They have to take up a 9 to 5 job plus handling all the household chores that they handled as a homemaker. Men's role has not changed much . Many Pakistani families are still living as joint families along with the parents and in-laws. This adds to their stress, further because they have to please all the family members of their husbands. These women have to deal with the complaints made against them and turn deaf ears towards the negative feedback. Overall, majority of women in Pakistan look towards or live in the hope that things will change and they'd be respected in the work field equal to the other gender. Why is it that a woman’s appearance is judged more than males? 'Whether clothing, body frame or makeup related to one's personality is a critical thing to judge but women do face criticism in this context anyway. Sometimes the criticism is that women don’t look polished enough, with the general attitude being that the women doesn’t care about their job if they aren’t wearing makeup or high heels,’ And if they're applying a make-over and dressing for their job, they are trying to grab the attention of the other gender. Another noticeable challenge that ... the working women of today faces is a work-life imbalance. Their personal life tends to suffer due to work commitments or vice-versa. Family tends to feel neglected after endless nights of staying late at the office to complete an all-important project. On the other end of the spectrum, women still find themselves in the same dead-end position years later, because they have to leave work on time(this is one of the major issue) because they also have to manage all household chores and also having social pressure a girl must have to come back home at time if she will be late parents and other people start assuming thing, there must be happen something wrong, she must be in some difficult situation , After that she has to leave everything and stay at home just for the satisfaction of others. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be self-inflicted; to get out of the mess, we need to organize our time better and get our priorities in order. Most women fear the unknown and are scared to take risks that might lead to failure. Do you always wonder if everyone around you is questioning your abilities? If so, you need to let go of the fear as it’s probably holding you back. The most important thing is that you’re in the position because you have the skills for it and are excited about it. Hold on to that enthusiasm and use it as a source of power when you are feeling insecure. Challenge yourself, prove yourself! If you don't believe in yourself, nobody will. Read more
